Meet Shelby S., a dedicated Project Manager who’s Meet Shelby S., a dedicated Project Manager who’s making waves in the construction industry. 👷🏻‍♀️⭐️

Inspired by her father, a self-employed carpenter, Shelby spent many summers learning the trade, which sparked her interest in the field. Although she realized carpentry wasn’t her future, she pursued a degree in civil engineering. Her career began as a field engineer, tackling emergency response work and traveling extensively across the United States, including Montana, Arkansas, North Carolina, Texas, and Louisiana. These experiences allowed her to gain invaluable insights and build a solid reputation in the industry.

Shelby has faced numerous challenges as a woman in a male-dominated field, often finding herself the only woman in the room. Initially, she lacked female mentors, which made it difficult to navigate critical career decisions. Despite this, she was determined to be the hardest-working person in any room to ensure she was never underestimated. Today, Shelby actively seeks female mentorship and serves as a role model herself, drawing from her experiences to guide others.

Her advice to young women considering a career in construction? Don’t be afraid to try new things and advocate for yourself. Shelby emphasizes the importance of having a thick skin and a can-do attitude, reminding young women that self-advocacy is crucial. “Be prepared, be confident, and be willing to accept help when you need it.”

One of Shelby’s proudest achievements is leading a $150M airport program, which involved building the airport from the ground up. Over seven years, she and her team of nine worked collaboratively to overcome challenges and successfully opened the airport to the public, showcasing all the hard work and dedication of each person. In addition to her professional accomplishments, Shelby takes immense pride in being a wife and mother to her two daughters. “Everything I do is for them, I hope that my hard work and commitment to the job I love will influence them to at least take a look at the construction industry when that time comes.”

Join us in celebrating Shelby’s incredible journey and accomplishments during Women in Construction Week! 🚧🦺
Meet Olivia M, a committed concrete truck driver a Meet Olivia M, a committed concrete truck driver at Pallette Stone! 👷🏻‍♀️

With six years in the construction industry—and four years this June with Pallette Stone—Olivia’s journey started long before she ever got behind the wheel of a concrete truck. Growing up, she spent time around her uncle and grandfather as they ran equipment at their RV parks. That early exposure sparked her interest in construction and led her to attend BOCES for heavy equipment during her last two years of high school.

After graduating, she worked running heavy equipment—but her goal was always clear: she wanted to drive trucks. Something about driving a concrete truck stood out to her, and once she started applying, her journey truly began. Today, she says she loves what she does—and plans on sticking with it.

Like many in construction, Olivia has learned to navigate an unpredictable schedule. She also faced the challenge of earning acceptance as a woman driver in a male-dominated field—but she met it head-on with confidence and determination.

Her advice to young women considering construction?
“If you’re interested in the construction world, do it. Don’t be afraid of all the men in it. Keep your head high and don’t be afraid of anything.”

Olivia says she’s most proud of finding a job she truly loves—and sticking with it.
We’re proud to have Olivia on our team and grateful for the dedication she brings to the road every day!
