PROJECT BACKGROUND

Objective: Demolition and replacement of bridge over the Mohawk River

 

Project Scope:

This project involved replacing a bridge located on Route 32 over the Mohawk River in the towns of Waterford and Cohoes, immediately upstream of an active low head hydroelectric dam.

D.A. Collins Construction team members also constructed a new 260 m (853 ft) long multiple‐span steel plate girder structure located approximately 25 m (80 ft.) east of and parallel to the existing structure.

The existing bridge had to be demolished upon completion of the new crossing is a 207.9 m (682 ft.) long 7‐span concrete arch. In‐water construction via barges included temporary cofferdams with new cast‐in‐place concrete piers.

Other work included but is not limited to staged abutment construction with soldier pile lagging walls and cofferdams, new box culvert installation, utility relocations, roadwork, and signalized intersections.
